2002 Indiana Black Expo


The 32nd Annual Summer Celebration is being held July 15 through July 21. Activities include business workshops, an ecumenical service, an employment fair, a minority health fair, various receptions and concerts, and appearances by local and national celebrities.

Headliners Information
Mary J. Blige, Rick James and Al Green take the stage at 7 p.m., July 21st, at Conseco Fieldhouse. Admission into the Indiana Convention Center and RCA Dome is $7 advance, $8 at the door, and free for children 5 and younger. Advance tickets available at Kroger stores and IBE offices, or by calling 1-317-925-2702, Ext. 18.

In 1970, black civic and religious leaders founded Indiana Black Expo Inc. The inaugural event, an exposition showcasing black achievements in culture, art, history and economics, was held the following summer at the Indiana State Fairgrounds as an official event of the Indianapolis Sesquicentennial celebration. By its 30th anniversary in 2000, Black Expo had 12 chapters throughout the state and hosted not only a Summer Celebration but events like the Circle City Classic football game in October.
